About the Prayer Breakfast

Clients, volunteers, mentors and MAM friends of all faith backgrounds are invited to attend our prayer breakfasts, led by clergy from MAM’s member congregations.

Prayers, scripture and open discussion will be offered in an accepting inter-denominational setting. There is no cost to attend. Prayer Breakfasts are back to being in-person at the main MAM campus.

If your congregation is interested in hosting an upcoming Prayer Breakfast at MAM, please contact Bill Ogden in Office of Fund Development at [email protected]

About the Speaker

I was born in Austin, Texas on September 6, 1957.  I grew up right across from the neighborhood Catholic Church that we attended for the first thirteen years of my life. I had two younger sisters, Lynn and Lucy, but I also had a score of other relatives that I grew up with – grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and long-time family friends.

I moved often as a child due to the changing nature of my father’s jobs. After living in Austin, Temple, Dickinson, and Chattanooga, I returned to Austin at age 18 to attend college. In 1980, I received my degree and became an elementary school teacher. On Valentine’s Day, 1981, I met my future wife, Jeanne. She and I both moved to Houston in 1982, got married, and we have lived here ever since.

I joined the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1980, so Jeanne and I looked for a good church in the Houston area to attend. St. Giles became our church home and the focus of our Christian service to others for many years. We transferred our membership to Spring Branch Presbyterian Church in 1999. In 2001, I began to explore a call to ministry. After eight years of night classes and church work, I retired from teaching and began full-time seminary work at Princeton Seminary in New Jersey. I graduated in May of 2011 and returned to Houston. In July 2011, I was hired by Heritage Presbyterian Church as their pastor, where I served until I was called back to my “home” church of Spring Branch Presbyterian Church in September 2023.

Jeanne and I treasure our adult children, Dan and Meg, as well as our children-in-law and our 3 grandchildren.
