We have created an area on our website dedicated to the information for our member congregations! You'll easily find important dates, event info, and other documents.

History:

MAM's creation story began with the faith community standing as one to meet the needs of the poor during one of Houston's most difficult economic downturns.  In December, 1981, 13 local churches and 1 synagogue responded to a call from Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church to attend a meeting for the proposal of a coalition of Memorial Area Churches to develop a network for emergency services for families living in poverty.

That 'network' officially became known as MAM in June of 1982.  Since that time, MAM has remained focused on delivering programs of family stability with faith that all in need will feel welcome. Today, MAM's membership consists of over 30 congregations.

What do Member Congregations do?

MAM Member congregations are a voluntary coalition of congregations that pledge their support to MAM by:

  • Praying for those who work in our ministries and those we serve

  • Providing annual contributions

  • Having one representative serve on the Congregation Council by attending meetings, communicating MAM’s activities and needs to the congregation, recruiting volunteers and conducting special drives to serve MAM clients in need.

  • Helping recruit volunteers, who will be screened and trained by MAM to work in all ministry areas

  • Contributing goods to be sold in the MAM Resale Store.

As a member, the congregation will be able to:

  • Refer all requests for assistance to MAM offices where needs can be verified and proper referral made or assistance given

  • Have access to valid and worthwhile volunteer opportunities and well as increase ecumenism and community spirit.

  • Have an opportunity to host one of the MAM monthly prayer breakfasts to offer a discussion and prayer to our clients, volunteers, staff and community.

  • List congregation events in the MAM Minute, the monthly MAM email newsletter.

If your congregation is interested in learning more about becoming a member congregation, please contact Bill Ogden, Community Liaison at [email protected].
