Victoria's Story

Victoria is originally from Mexico. She wanted to learn English, but since she had to leave school at a very young age in Mexico, she never learned to read and write in her native language. The ESL team worked with Victoria and another student to start at the basic of Spanish phonetics – which included learning the alphabet and working with children’s books so they could become proficient in Spanish first. Her 9 year old daughter even helped by making flashcards to help her mom study outside of class. After 10 months, Victoria is now reading in Spanish and just enrolled in MAM’s ESL classes to learn English. She will be reading, writing and speaking in two languages soon enough!
