Help Support Back-to-School & Sock-it-to-MAM!
DONATE NOW | Promotional Materials for Congregations/Organizations
Memorial Assistance Ministries works through schools in our service area to help families who cannot afford school clothing and school supplies for their children. If you need school uniforms and school supplies contact your counselor, CIS worker or CYS worker after August 15th to see if you are eligible for help.

Remember your first day of school? For most of us, it was a chance to wear new clothes, organize new supplies, and sport a new backpack. It was a great beginning for a new school year. Many kids in the Houston area don’t have that chance. Their families can’t afford the supplies and clothing necessary for a successful new school year.

The MAM Back-to-School Program can help.
Each school has a dress code or clothing guidelines. In many schools the children
are required to wear a white polo shirt, khaki or navy pants or shorts, white socks
and athletic/tennis shoes. The staff and families often refer to it as the “uniform.”
Each year, MAM’s Back-to-School Drive raises funds for school clothes and supplies.
55% of the students enrolled in Spring Branch ISD schools qualify for subsidized
school lunches. The district enrollment shows 16,725 elementary school children
and 6,777 middle schoolers. We want every child to have the clothes they need. Our goal for the 2012-2013
school year is to assist 5,000 elementary and middle school children and we need
to raise over $200,000 to reach our goal.
School counselors, nurses or social workers give MAM clothing vouchers to families who meet the poverty guidelines, and whose children qualify for the free/reduced school lunch program. The vouchers are
restricted to school clothing at local stores such as Target, Academy, Fallas Parades, and Fiesta. Parents can go shopping for their children, choose the appropriate
clothing, and pay at the register with the MAM voucher. The stores then bill MAM
directly.
Individual and corporate donations are welcome.

Giving Guidelines for Back-to-School
- $20 can provide all the supplies a child will need for the school year
- $50 can supply a child with a new outfit and shoes for the first day of school
- $100 can supply two children within a family with any combination of clothing that
is needed such as new shirts, pants, belts, socks, underwear and shoes
- Or, your generous donation of any amount will help as many kids as possible.
SOCK-it-to-MAM
Sock-it-to-MAM is a fun way to get groups or companies involved and help with the Back-to-School effort. White socks and underwear, children’s sizes 6-14, are collected by the group or company and delivered to (or picked-up by) MAM. School nurses and teachers especially appreciate the clean white socks and underwear that are donated. Sock-it-to-MAM bags are available.
