As you make your decisions about end of the year charitable giving, I hope you will consider a gift to MAM where we see your gift not as “money given away”, but a “shared blessing” that we must pass on to those less fortunate. Your end of the year gift to our Annual Fund will go to support families who do not have the means to meet their basic needs: MAM helps with rent, utilities, clothing, gasoline or Metro cards, work clothing, doctor visits, prescriptions and much more. We help people find jobs and learn how to keep them and we help people learn to speak English (beginners to citizenship preparation). We provide GED classes and services that solve the problems in our clients’ lives that prevent them from being able to care for themselves: legal services, mental health and domestic abuse counseling and access to public benefits.
· A $20.00 gas voucher gets George to work until he gets his first paycheck.
· A $75.00 doctor visit and prescription coverage stops the pain of the earache and Yolanda can go back to school.
· A $180 rent payment means that the Jackson family will be in their apartment for at least six months.
· $250 means that Rosa will learn to speak enough English that she can talk to her daughter’s teacher.
· $500 means that Richard will learn how to find a job and develop the skills needed to keep that job.
This year, MAM’s Christmas Share, will give toys and blankets to children of families too poor for material blessings. The toys are for joy and the blankets a simple necessity that so many of us take for granted. Along with toys and blankets, MAM will also give families a list of our favorite holiday traditions that have nothing to do with money: enjoying Christmas displays, playing a dreidel game for Hanukkah, cutting snowflakes, taking books out of the library and reading a new story every day, telling family stories, caroling and finding ways to light up the world.MAM does more than pay the bills – we give hope. We help people find their way back to the light that shines in everyone. We hope that you will choose MAM when you decide how to share your blessings.
Faithfully yours,
Martha Macris, Executive Director
